Subject: 4-18-25 THOUGHTS

4-18-25    THOUGHTS

Some heavy thoughts from Paul this morning.  The “flesh as opposed to the spirit” is a major theme of the new testament.  Jesus is the answer, and not we ourselves.  Romans 7 & 8 need to be read together.  What a message they give!  Gal 5:24   “Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”  To belong to Christ, implies a start, a middle, and a finish!   Col 3:2   “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.”  The mind set on spiritual things brings life and peace!   1Cor 2:12 “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God...”

Rom 7:24-8:6    Wretched man that I am!  Who will set me free from the body of this death? 25  Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!  So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.   8:1   Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  2  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3  For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh,
God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4  so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.  5  For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6  For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,

My Prayer:
Thanks be to You, O God, through Christ Jesus our Lord.  Please, O Lord Good, continually set us free from the fleshly side of our existence. May the lust for this world that plagues us, be always overcome by our faith in our risen Lord.  Help us to set our minds on the things above, where Christ is.  May we see things in the long view, and not be short-term thinking people.  Bury our minds and hearts, O God, in Christ Jesus, that we might be His in all.  In His name we pray,    Amen.
